Say Hello to Our L.A. Angels

We’re back in Los Angeles tonight for our second town hall, Know Your Worth! Our ambassadors have been hustling hard to grow this community, and are taking the reins tonight, so be sure to come by and say hello at Bar & Garden in Culver City.

You can follow Ladies Get Paid LA on Instagram and Facebook.

Why is it important to you to be an ambassador in Los Angeles?

Jess: I’ve spent the last year exploring how fulfilling it is to amplify a message that I don’t necessarily experience in my daily life (i.e. I helped launch a major social impact campaign for immigration reform, while I am not an immigrant nor is anyone in my immediate family). With Ladies Get Paid, I am a woman who is very happy with my job and compensation, but I know there are many who are not! I think it is important to have different perspectives, and I’d like to show other women that we have control over our careers and how we balance life outside of them.

Ve: The pay gap/gender equity are causes that I’m VERY passionate about. I’m on the board of my company’s women’s organization, and last year I co-developed Ladies Design Salon. Growing up with strong female figures (my mum and grandmother) helped me be sensitive and attune to inequalities that other women are exposed to. It’s the 21st Century, and it’s about bloody time things finally change.

Sara: My two favorite things in the world are telling stories and learning, and at Ladies Get Paid events, this is what we do! I think opening up to each other about our experiences in the working world is one of the best ways women can help each other, and I’m at a point in my career where I have a lot of knowledge to share, so I knew I had to get involved.

Where might we find you when you’re not at work?

Jess: Early morning on the Fryman Canyon Trail, on my laptop in the lobby of my daughter’s dance studio, drinking whiskey at Idle Hour in NoHo.

Sara: Over caffinated and at yoga!

Ve: at G&B Coffee.

Best advice you’ve received?

Ve: One step at a time…things happen when they need to happen.

Jess: “Just keep living, baby.” -My Grandmother

Sara: “Nothing can stop you but you.” A boss said this to me years ago, and it took me a while to get what she meant. If you really want something, you’ll find a way to get it or you’ll die trying.

I’m visiting LA…what must I do?!

Sara: My favorite thing about Los Angeles is how you can get to a trailhead that ends with a gorgeous vista from pretty much anywhere in the city in about 15 minutes. So pick a hike, do it, and then celebrate with a cold brew or a juice. It’s cheaper and healthier than any boozy brunch. Though you can do that before or after your hike, too 🙂

Jess: My faves (in no particular order):

Ve: I’m biased – DTLA. I LOVE DTLA and have been a resident for 9 years now. Come and visit wonderful art museums from The Broad to Hauser & Wirth. Go to Grand Central Market and have amazing food. Also, if you are a coffee fan there is so much to choose from; its one of the cities with the highest concentration of coffee shops.
