Member Spotlight: Eva Goicochea

Eva’s leap into the entrepreneurial unknown didn’t happen overnight and after a few more stints of working for others, she finally went full-time to run her own design company, eg studio. Along the way, she also amassed a pretty sizable Instagram following. In our first Member Spotlight, we give you a sneak peek into Eva’s world.

Eva Goicochea thought she wanted to go into politics. Driven by the desire to give back, she started her career at The National Resources Defense Council but then found herself as an early employee for Everlane, a high quality, cost transparent online retailer. She led their social media, culture, and talent departments, giving her a window into running – and growing – a small business.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE GROWING UP?

From the time I was young, my dream was to go to Cornell to become an architect. Friends and family helped me fill my shelves with architecture books, models, and toys, and for my 7th birthday, I asked to take the train across the country to visit the Sears Tower in Chicago. But when I got into high school and realized how much I disliked math, I started thinking about a new dream. Sorry I.M. Pei!

WHO OR WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST DESIGN INFLUENCES?

I spend a part of each day on siteInspire and Fonts in Use, looking for interesting ways to marry digital, type and the elements of print.

BEST AND WORST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED.

Best: “If you want something, ask for it.” Worst: “Stay in a job at least two years.”

WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT WE’RE DOING AT LGP?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I believe that working should always be continued education and when that learning ends and your job becomes a grey cloud following you, go—even if you’re not at the two-year mark.  As someone who has always had a hard time negotiating and getting paid what I deserve, Ladies Get Paid feels like a community of sisters. I’m excited to make each other stronger.
