Hey Reader,
I’ve gotten a bunch emails from people asking if my Ladies Get Hired 90-Day Coaching Program is only for women who know what job they want next.
It’s an great question, and the short answer: nope!
This coaching cohort is for anyone who:
- Knows they want to pivot and need the tools, support, and accountability to do it
- Doesn’t like their current path, but isn’t sure what else is out there or how to navigate into it
- Feels overwhelmed by options and indecisions and needs help prioritizing the process
Enrollment starts on Feb 12, but in the meantime, I’ve been doing free 20 min phone calls with anyone who is interested in enrolling to find out more about them.
A couple of common themes and concerns have popped up among potential pivoters, so if that’s you, keep reading for some advice below 🙂 (and don’t forget to sign up for the waitlist for my coaching program!)
I’m nervous about taking a financial risk.
I would never suggest someone take a financial risk unless they know exactly what they’re risking, for how long, and what they’re ultimately getting in return. For example, when I launched my first startup, I rented out my apartment for six months and lived couch-to-couch with different friends. Then, I re-evaluated and decided the financial downside had overtaken the upside of working for myself.
Every choice has a sacrifice, so you need to figure out what metrics you’ll use to calculate whether an opportunity is worth sacrificing for. In Ladies Get Hired, we’ll determine those metrics (which include things like identifying your values and innate strengths and connecting to your intuition), plus make a series of budgets so you can effectively “game out” a realistic roadmap of what your earning capacity might look like in a potential pivot.
I’m scared I’m making the wrong decision.
Usually when people don’t feel confident in their decision, it simply means they haven’t gathered enough of the right information from the right sources. If you’re unsure if a certain career pivot is right for you, the best thing to do is to talk to real people in those roles and ask them about their biggest challenges. Get granular with what time they wake up in the morning, the cadence of energy and expectations, and the hardest things they’ve had to learn.
It’s easy to fantasize about doing something different but you’ll feel a lot better knowing the reality of what you’re getting into. Not only will you be more confident in pulling the trigger pivot, but you can also use the information you get from asking that question, to help demonstrate to a future employer why your strengths are transferrable.
Another way to relieve the pressure of taking a big leap is to take a series of smaller steps instead. As part of Ladies Get Hired, we’ll explore ways to “practice” this new path
I’m worried no one will want to hire someone who just pivoted.
There are two things to separate here so you can proactively address them. Is this more of a storytelling gap or an experience/skills gap? Also, are there bridge opportunities you should be focusing on first? Two of the jobs I got in the past came from side projects I’d worked on, rather than “traditional” professional experience.
It takes immense courage, self-motivation, and self-awareness to pivot and so I think you can flip the script on why “taking a chance” on you is less risky than they think. Especially if you can demonstrate ways in which you’ve learned quickly in the past, and how you’ve done a lot of research – per my tip above – on what exactly it takes to succeed in this role.
My goal with Ladies Get Hired is to turn you into a memorable candidate, and being “non-traditional” automatically makes you stand out. We just want it to be a good thing – which, based on my own hiring experience – is possible.
As a reminder, Ladies Get Hired kicks off in March and is limited to only 30 participants. The program includes bi-weekly group sessions, weekly action plans/accountability check-ins (plus optional co-working), personalized edits on all your job search materials, and two private sessions with me at any point during the 90 days.
Enrollment opens on February 12th and is first come first serve. The best way to secure your spot is to:
- Get on the waitlist
- Connect with me on LinkedIn
- Book a free exploratory call with me if you’re not sure the program is right for you
I’m super excited to dig in with a group of women committed to making a career change, and I promise it’s going to be an incredible and worthwhile investment for anyone who enrolls!
