Clients often come to me at a crossroads in their life and career:
“Should I leave my job? Should I pivot paths? Should I launch a business? Should I ask for a raise? Should I pitch my idea?”
(Sound familiar?)
Deep inside, you know the answer.
The problem is: you don’t trust it. The truth is: you don’t trust yourself.
All you can see is the potential fallout from making that decision, everything that could and will go wrong.
To that I say, good. You’re walking in eyes wide open.
However, if your fear of the fallout is so big, you’ve become paralyzed with indecision…well, that IS a decision. Time passing made it for you.
👉 So how can you go from treading water to taking command?
I’ve made some pretty big decisions in my life including leaving my husband for my co-founder and though I’d never even KISSED a woman, I knew deep in my bones that it was the right decision. I didn’t second guess myself for a second. Seven years and two kids later…
How the frick did I learn to trust myself to make such a monumental life-altering decision without a bit of hesitation?
It was a process of learning to trust myself, something that I’ll explore over the next series of emails, but here’s a framework of three areas that if you work on now, I promise you will stop feeling so damn stuck and start moving forward faster and with more ease.
- Earn the trust of your Parts. Instead of seeing yourself as simply one person, imagine yourself made up of parts. (Shout out to IFS!) These parts of you have varying thoughts, opinions, and coping mechnisms, often times at odds with each other.
Your practice is to learn how to dialogue with each of them in a compassionate and curious way, and in doing so, over time, these parts will begin to trust you. They will see that there is a larger Self (sometimes referred to as intuition), within you, and that they don’t need to work so hard to help you, which they often do through well intentioned but maladapted ways like procrastination and perfectionism. Over time, and with the help of an IFS-trained therapist, you can transform the Parts that aren’t “working for you” into sources of nourishment + healing.
- Clear the fear. In order to trust yourself, you have to truly see yourself. Unfortunately part of our nature as humans is to view things (including ourselves) through a filter of fear. It’s how we survived! But you’re don’t want to just surive anymore, you’re ready to thrive.
So whenever you find yourself up in the middle of the night going over all the worst case scenarios, validate it. Thank it. Write it down. And then write down at least one action you can take to prepare for it. This will give you a sense of control, which is what the fear is craving. Simultenaously, however – and this is where it gets tricky – try to also accept it. Surrender to whatever happens; you WILL learn and grow from it. If that feels like silver lining bullshit, think back to other times in your life that were difficult and what it gave you. No doubt you learned a ton. Trust me, our biggest struggles are blueprints for tremendous growth.
- Tune into your desires. I love this quote by Danielle LaPorte: “Knowing how you want to feel is the most potent form of clarity you can have.” As a woman, there’s a high likelihood that you’re out of touch with your inner desires (not your fault, we’re just socialized to put others’ needs before ours), so take some time to tune into feelings that, if you felt them on a regular basis, would greatly impact the quality of your life.
- These core desired feelings make up the core essence of who you are. They are the oxygyn you need to come alive, the key to thriving and not just suriving. They are also the filter to use as you consider making a decision. For example, consider: when you decide [FILL-IN-THE-BLANK], how will these feelings be affected? Will it generate more of them? Or block them entirely? If you don’t prioritize these feelings, you’re not prioritizing yourself. And if you don’t prioritize yourself, how will you ever build self-trust?
Over the next few emails, I’ll go more in depth with various areas of decision-making, especially as it relates to career choices.
In the meantime, let me know if this resonated! Reply directly or better yet, post on LinkedIn and tag me. I’ll comment back 🙂

SEPTEMBER 14 – 28
Gain career clarity + confidence in 2 weeks
I’ve coached thousands of women and uncovered an unsettling pattern about why many of you stay stuck in unfulfilling careers, even when you know there could be something better out there for you.
❌ You’ve decided your career aspirations are “unrealistic”
❌ You’re out of touch with your inner desires
❌ You’re overwhelmed by the thought of a potential pivot
❌ You’re in a busy season of life with no time for an existential crisis
Based on my years of experience leading professional development at places like NASA, Harvard Business School, and Facebook, I designed Goal Groups, a special process that will help you achieve a specific objective within a two-week time frame, without overwhelm.
It’s a mix of live and asynchronous micro-learning that leverages a curated cohort, an accountability partner, and an actionable roadmap. All led by me 🙂
Our first topic is all about career clarity and it’s perfect for anyone who wants to make their next move with intention.
The program kicks off on September 14th and spots are limited.
Watch this free webinar to get a sneak peek of my framework and style. (Trigger warning at 58:33 when I talk about my son’s upcoming heart surgery, I wasn’t going to leave it in the recording but figured if I believe transparency is transformative, I gotta live my mission ❤️🩹)
And if you’re still on the fence, schedule a free call for an honest assessment if we’re a good fit. You know I’ll always be real 🙂
