Real talk: ever since the pandemic decimated my business model (reliant on in-person events and brand sponsorships), I’ve struggled. Professionally. Personally. Financially.

Listen, I have no problem asking a company for money; in fact, I relish that. But when it comes to asking an individual…I feel all kinds of ick.

It’s not that I don’t believe what I offer brings tremendous value. I do! I just feel badly asking someone who is already struggling, to spend money on top of it (even though I know it will help them.)

Turns out, the rational and emotional sides of our brain aren’t always speaking the same language.

That’s because money isn’t just math and numbers. It’s how we feel about those numbers that can be the catalyst (or the obstacle) to making more of it.

To help me decipher that language, and move through my blockages of charging more, I started working with money coach Brittany Tam.

It dawned on me that I’m probably not the only one who could benefit from improving their relationship with money.

If money is keeping you up at night and/or you struggle to ask for more, good news.

We’ve decided to record our time together, in the hopes that her helping me also helps you! (Shout out to Amanda Goetz and Amanda Northcutt for inspiring me 🥰)

During our kick-off session, I talked about my aspirations to change my business model, what’s held me back, and what we need for a good relationship with money – and a money coach!

It’s a six-part series that includes action steps – see below – that I hope you’ll do alongside me. Because the more we all get paid, the more powerful EVERYONE becomes. A rising ride lifts all boats 🚢

PS I’d love to hear what you think of this series! Post your thoughts on LinkedIn and tag me, I’ll comment back 🙂

📋 This week’s action steps

How to establish the foundation of a better relationship with money.

✅ Refine your values.

Knowing what you value and don’t value helps you set priorities, including how you use your money. One way we can move to greater satisfaction is to align our spending with our values. e.g. if exploration is something you value, then maybe that looks like setting aside money for future travel, and looking at opportunities for exploration now, like taking museum trips.

  • What are your values? Where and how can you explore them?
  • If you’re a business owner: are your personal values different than those you have for your business?

✅ Notice how resistance shows up for you.

There’s gold in the resistance, and we can’t get to the gold if we don’t notice when resistance shows up for us.

  • Hopefully, you know what it feels like when you’re working in flow, things feel effortless. How does the opposite show up for you? What else shows up?
  • What do you do physically? Doomscroll? Look for “shiny objects”? Engage in productive procrastination? Nap?
  • How does it show up in your body?
  • Are there certain times and places where resistance shows up?

✅ Define or refine your goals.

We can’t do everything all at once, and this helps us hone in and make some tangible progress on the things that are important to us.

  • What do you want to achieve/explore in the next 6 weeks? how does it connect to your vision and values?
  • Are you able to make it specific and defined?

🎧 Missed last week’s episode?

In this episode, you’ll meet Marissa, who is feeling burnt out from a career in social work and contemplating a career pivot.

I walk her through a series of categories to consider, like her innate strengths and values, the kinds of environments where she thrives, the impact she wants to have, and the things she wants to learn.

🕵️‍♀️ Searching for guidance?

Is there something that’s blocking you from creating the future you want?

Whether it’s an overwhelming to-do list, an underwhelming bank account, or the inability to quiet your mind, you know things could be better. You’re just not sure how to get there.

It’s not your fault. You’re simply too close to yourself.

Working through obstacles to achieve our goals requires both emotional exploration and strategic roadmapping, neither of which is easy to do on our own. It’s critical to get support on the road to change, especially as you struggle through the uncertainty of transition.

And that’s where I come in 🙂
