Burnt out from a career in social work, Marissa knew she needed to pivot, but felt unclear in which direction.

In the latest episode of my new podcast, where you get to listen in on real coaching sessions, I walk Marissa through a series of categories to consider as part of her new trajectory. Things like:

  • Innate strengths and values
  • The kinds of environments in which she thrives
  • The impact she wants to have
  • Things she wants to learn

I view getting a job like getting an MBA where we design our ideal curriculum and then look for an opportunity (or create our own) with the most growth.

When you see things through the lens of growth, the question then becomes:

👉 What areas of growth are most important to you? What do you most prioritize in this season of your life?

Everything can be used as a building block, and while you don’t have to necessarily know what you’re building towards, it has to generate more of SOMETHING – network, exposure, skills, mentorship, fulfillment, peace, paycheck…

That’s why knowing how to tap into your intuition is also so important (which is why one of the first questions I ask Marissa, is how connected she is to hers…)

You’ll also notice that I ask her about her stress-relieving practices. Just because she’s burnt out from social work, doesn’t guarantee she won’t also burn herself out in whatever next path she chooses.

Piecing together career clarity is such a right-brain/left-brain exercise and one that requires perspective. After all, we’re too close to ourselves! That’s why I’m grateful to Marissa for seeking me out and if you too are in her position, I encourage you to get support.

💫 Contemplating a career pivot?

Working through obstacles to achieve our goals requires both emotional exploration and strategic roadmapping, neither of which is easy to do on our own. It’s critical to get support on the road to change, especially as you struggle through the uncertainty of transition. And that’s where I come in 🙂

I have room in my schedule for a few more private clients. If you haven’t already, listen to my podcast to get a sense of my style, and when you’re ready to get moving, click that button below!
