I didn’t want to start Ladies Get Paid.

I was still pretty shaken by my inability to launch my first business and felt fulfilled in my role at my friend’s startup. Maybe someday I’d try again, I figured.

I didn’t expect that someday to come so soon.

Fed up with seeing my female freelancer friends under price themselves, I hosted an event for us to talk about money. It was supposed to be a one-off; I had no plans to do another event, let alone create a whole business. However, it was undeniable that something special happened that night. An attendee pulled me aside, “This is what you should do.”

Whatever this is.

I knew deep down I wanted to start another business. But did I have the guts? Did I have the money?

Nope to both.

But I did have the fire. I was seriously pissed about the wage gap and was finding it increasingly difficult to get my mind off anything else.

So I searched for other women’s organizations. No doubt someone else was running a business for women to learn how to own their worth.

Yep, there were tons.

Yet, none of them spoke to me. They weren’t quite doing it how I would do it, or at least not in my voice.

That was the first ah-ha moment
: no one is me. And that inherently would make my brand unique. Maybe there was room for me.

The second ah-ha moment: the longer I waited to launch, the longer I was doing a disservice to others.

I realized, your business isn’t about you. It’s about the people you serve.

When you don’t put yourself out there, you’re not only denying yourself, you’re denying them.

There are thousands – maybe millions – of people waiting for your service or product. Their lives will be improved because of you.

So I asked myself, why am I making them wait? For fear of failing? Lack of funds? Lack of time and energy?

All valid.

But all solveable. There are lots of self-made entrepreneurs out there (hello, Oprah!)

The best way to solve resistance is with a roadmap.

In my case, it was a path to monetization. With my failed first business, I’d learned the hard way that passion doesn’t pay the bills.

With Ladies Get Paid, I had the plan; I just needed the push.

It came in the form of an ultimatum.

My boss at the time told me that if I wanted to continue hosting events for women to talk money while working for him, he would own it (since that first event I did was technically for his company.)

Sometimes the universe needs to kick you in the ass to kick you into gear. Or as Brendon Burchard says, “when shit is on the line.”

With my job on the line, I made the leap.

I quit and launched Ladies Get Paid. I didn’t have funding but I did have faith, namely in myself and my ability to learn and act quickly.

In my journey of bootstrapping Ladies Get Paid to eventually a seven-figure business with a community of more than 100k, one of the biggest things I’ve learned is this:

People want to help you.

Your customers and clients, other business owners, coaches, communities like Ladies Get Paid… When you succeed, we all succeed.

Remember, your business is not about you. It’s about the people you serve.

Here’s the catch though: you have to ask for help.

Which isn’t always easier, especially when you’ve been conditioned to appear like “everything’s fine!” Plus, you don’t know what you don’t know. (One of my biggest stumbling blocks.)

Let me help you.

Let me give you everything I’ve learned in bootstrapping my business over the past seven years.

Let me help you create your roadmap of money, marketing, and mental health so that you can finally become your own boss, serve the people who are waiting for you, and make the paycheck you deserve.

Let me show you how the greatest job security is working for yourself.
